1. More than any other book Jonathan Livingston Seagull has had the most influence on me in terms of self-actualization. From this book I learned the power of being an individual—and not allowing the anyone to set my course in life.
And to think, it was a Seagull that brought about the awareness in me.
I’ll tell you, that f**kin‘ little persnickety bird really messed-me-up in the best possible way.
2. Ah, Brave New World! I actually read this book after reading Nineteen Eighty-Four by George Orwells, interestingly enough. And even though I found the aforestated intriguing and prophetic—for me, the latter was even more so.
Although, at the time of my first reading, I couldn't envision Huxley’s appraisal of the future coming to fruition, However, by my second serving, along with some supervening life experiences, I saw that the world he foretold in this book was already here.
3. I stumbled across “Propaganda” by Jacques Ellul during a period of intense research. At the time, my mission was to acquire a superior understanding of the ways in which disinformation was used in society—particularly by governments. As a consequence, I read any and everything on the topic. And, I can state without a modicum of hesitation that Jacques Ellul‘s book “Propaganda” is the best— in my estimation of course.
